Class II, division 2 is an uncommon
problem. In Example A you can see the increased vertical overlap of the front teeth
(overbite) means that the upper front teeth are biting on the gums around the
lower front teeth. If left for a long time, it is possible that the gum tissue
can be damaged; this is the main reason to correct this problem.
In Example A the
situation presented in a growing individual and was therefore
corrected without extractions in a two stage treatment; a
functional appliance to correct the bite of the back teeth and
subsequently fixed appliances were used to align the front teeth
and reduce the overbite.
In Example B the
situation presented in an older individual and the bite of the
back teeth was corrected first with a headgear; subsequently
fixed appliances were used to align the teeth and reduce the
overbite.
